Golf Swing Fundamentals

Keep your back bent during both the back and downswing.

In order to develop a consistent golf swing, a solid basis is needed. For many, everything learned is quickly forgotten as soon as the pressure mounts a little bit. That’s when the basics play an important role. Every golfer, even professionals, must know and follow the basics if they want any amount of success.

The First Rule
The first rule is to keep the back in position both on the up and downswing. If the back moves even slightly, it will cause the head to move when the swing starts. Generally, this indicates that the position of the back should be readjusted. On the back swing, the hands should not be lifted very high - rather, the back should be kept in its initial position and the shoulders should rotate by about 90º. This re-positions the back correctly in relation to the target.

The Second Rule
The second rule is to keep the arms extended as much as possible. This means that the arms should be kept away from the body, both on the back and downswing. The goal here is to make the largest circle possible around the body without changing the position of your back. Respecting the first two rules ensures increased stability and consistency during the golf swing.

The Third Rule
The third and final rule plays an important role in improving the precision. Both during the up and downswing a constant bend in the knees must be maintained. It is as dangerous to keep the knees straight and rigid as it is to lift the back.

These three rules need to be followed in order to ensure solid contact with the ball.

During the back swing, try to keep the greatest amount of extension to ensure good shoulder rotation.

Once you’ve made contact with the ball, your back should remain bent and your arms should remain extended.

Once you’ve made contact, most of your weight should be on your open foot and your knees should still be bent.
